Ivory Netsuke of a Dutchman

Of similar type to the more common wood version, but more detailed, the man’s coat of the heavy woollen type seen on fox priests.  The boy has a noticeably large head

Unsigned.  Osaka, circa 1800

Provenance:

Previously in an Austrian private collection.  Sold by Rutherston & Bandini to the present vendor in 2013

Information:

The S-shaped curls of the man’s hair are reminiscent of those on Getchu shishi and may be a clue to the place of carving
